A Prayer of Thanksgiving
“And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.” (Colossians 3:15)
Dear Abba Father,
You have captivated my heart with your affections. The provision of your hand overwhelms me to the point of no words. I do not take the time to sit quietly and dwell within the green pastures of gratitude nearly as often as I should. Yet, this is where my soul finds rest. So, with every fiber of my being, I pause to present my heart to you. Though the words seem to pale in comparison to your greatness and wonder, you have asked me to come to you. Therefore, in obedience, I come.
Thank you, Papa, for your love had awakened my heart when I thought I would never sing again. You were right by my side and gave me a new melody within this season.
For the times of waiting, when I become impatient in seeing the fulfillment of the desires you have placed within my heart. For in these times, you have taught me that you alone are the source of joy. And that in Your hands, my life is secure. For your plans have not been relinquished.
Thank you for the ability to witness the wonder and excitement of a child, who remind me not to take life too seriously. That laughter is a beautiful gift from You Father, and yet it also provides endurance for the mission of this narrow road.
Thank you for your mercy, which is found in abundance with every morning sunrise. For surely when I thought the darkness would captivate my joy, Your love came to my rescue.
For Your faithfulness Father, for it has proven to be far greater than my ability to wander. Yet, even when I have, you waited for my return.
Thank you for every storm that taught me to put my trust in you. For every tear stain which retold the truth that you bottle them up, and surely have heard my cry.
For shielding me from that which I have not seen, and fighting the battles I knew nothing about. You have used every opportunity meant for my harm to teach me that You are closer than I can even imagine.
Thank you for every drop of rain, for it points me to the truth that even in what I perceive to be a dreary downpour in my life, it really is a reminder of your sure provision. Also, for covering me with your love against the raging waters of this world.
Thank you for every blessing within this season. I know within my heart that every gift was surely hand-picked from Your gracious hand all along. For they recall the truth of your inherent beauty and love, leaving within my heart a sense of child-like wonder.
I pray that I hold these things with open hands to acknowledge that you are everything I need. And that every gain or loss is a reminder that you hold time in your hand. With that in mind, I know I can be thankful for the length of time I have been able to treasure that gift.
Thank you for supplying the one thing I cannot live without; Your beautiful presence and constant companionship.
For your Son, whose sacrifice showed me what real love truly looks like in action. And for your example of grace, which gave me every reason to forgive when I don’t want to. But also for your mercy, for when I don’t love as I should.
Your promises, which do not fade away l, are as mighty as the ocean waves that crash against the solid rocks.
Thank you for the people you surround me with. And most of all…
thank you, Father, for who You truly are.
